Scheme of Work

Location: Variety of School in Lincolnshire Duration: 10 sessions, 5 dates, 2 Hours per session Time: 9-11 & 1.30-3.30 Ability: Non-Slight experience Age: Primary Education
Planning Note FAO Supervisors: The scheme of work will be very simple for this placement, as the boss of the company, Gary Johnson decides what we are to do during the sessions. And also as part of the QuickSticks equipment, session plans are provided. We will liaise with Gary prior to the session and he will then go through which session he would like us to complete.
Aims of the placement:

  • To give all the participants an introduction to the basic skills required in QuickSticks
  • To develop these basic skills
  • Inherit the skills learned into game situations
  • Develop knowledge on the rules of QuickSticks
  • Prepare the participants with enough knowledge and talent to be able to compete in a QuickSticks festival
Players prior experience:

  • Due to QuickSticks being a new initiative which has recently been introduced, none of the participants had experienced playing it.
  • However, a few of the participants had played hockey before. Leaving them with some knowledge on similar rules and techniques.
Key Development Points:

  • Develop the basic technique of the players, individually and as a team.
  • Ensure that each session, although beneficial is fun and enjoyable for all involved.
Session 1: The first week of the placement we will introduce ourselves as the new coaches and briefly explain what we are going to be doing, followed then by the session. Introduction to Quicksticks

  • Demonstrate correct techniques
  • Begin introduction of different rules
Session 2: Development of Skills

  • Regain knowledge of previous skills learned, attempt to develop
  • Put skills into game situation
  • Continue to gain knowledge of rules and techniques
Session 3: Understanding passing and control

  • Use techniques learned previously to learn passing.
  • Identify and demonstrate key factors when passing.
  • Encourage importance of communication when passing.
  • Identify key techniques when controlling the ball
Session 4: Understanding dribbling

  • Introduce basic dribbling techniques; ensuring key points of dribbling are met.
  • Specify importance of dribbling.
  • Players will be able to identify when to dribble and when to pass.
Session 5:  Introduce game play

  • Players will be able to input their learned skills in to game situations
  • Encourage good flowing game play
  • Identify key points of game play
